Two charged with felony possession following routine traffic stop
NORWICH – Two people have been charged with felony possession of crack cocaine following a routine traffic stop on Hale Street that occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Monday.
The vehicle’s driver, Ariana L. Edwards, 35, of Binghamton, was charged with third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony, tampering with evidence, a class E felony, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, an A misdemeanor, and second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Edwards’ passenger, Thomas Williams Jr., 23, Long Island City, was charged with third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance – a class B felony – and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
According to authorities, Edwards was found to be driving with a suspended license following the traffic stop and it was discovered that Williams was wanted by the City of Utica Police Department on unrelated drug charges.
Both Edwards and Williams were allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of individually wrapped crack cocaine, as well as other illegal paraphernalia, during the course of their arrest.
The vehicle in question, a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was impounded, according to a Norwich City Police report.
The department’s K9 unit assisted on the scene.
Both subjects were arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. They will re-appear in Norwich City Court at a later date.
