Commerce Chenango to update economic development strategies
NORWICH – Over the next several months, Commerce Chenango’s economic development department will be working with community members, government officials, local organizations, and businesses to update the county-wide economic development strategic plan.
The five-year plan will help identify the economic status of the county. It aims to identify the goals and strategies necessary to improve quality of life, increase economic development opportunities, and achieve greater economic sustainability. The data collected during the strategic planning process will also be utilized by the county’s Industrial Development Agency to update its strategic plan.
Commerce Chenango invites community members to participate in the strategic planning process, and will hold four public comment meetings during the month of September. The meetings will provide the community with an opportunity to come together and share concerns, thoughts, and ideas about economic development in the county.
All meetings are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. They are: Monday, September 10, Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District Conference Room, Bainbridge; Wednesday, September 12, BOCES Cafeteria, Norwich; Thursday, September 20, Unadilla Valley Central School Library, New Berlin; and Tuesday, September 25, Moore Memorial Library Cynthia Raymond Room, Greene. During the meetings, community members will be asked for feedback about the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that impact economic development in Chenango County, as well as goals and strategies to achieve economic success.
Community members who would like to attend one of the meetings are encouraged to RSVP by emailing Rebecca Sands at rsands@chenangony.org or by calling (607) 334-1401. For more information about the strategic planning effort, or to learn about Commerce Chenango’s economic development department, call Jennifer Tavares at (607) 334-5532 or visit www.chenangony.org.
