Day named SUNYAC field hockey player of week

ONEONTA – SUNY Oneonta sophomore, Andrea Day (Greene/Greene), was selected as the SUNYAC field hockey Player of the Week in an announcement earlier this week by conference commissioner Azure Davey. Day had a tremendous opening weekend in leading the Red Dragons to a 2-0 start to 2012.
Day's highlight for the weekend came in Sunday's 4-3 overtime win against the College of Wooster. In the contest she assisted on the game-tying goal with 39 seconds remaining in regulation, and then came up with the game-winner in the 82nd minute to lift Oneonta to the victory. Her game-winner was her second goal of the game as her first score gave Oneonta a 2-1 lead in the 22nd minute.
In Saturday's season opener versus St. Lawrence, Day registered a goal and an assist as the Red Dragons cruised past the Saints 5-1.
Day, who was the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year in 2011, tallied three goals and two assists for the weekend. Last season she scored nine goals while adding two assists for 20 points. Five of her nine goals were game-winners for Oneonta.
As a junior for Greene, she helped the Trojans to the 2009 New York State Class A field hockey title.
