Wilcox scores five times in Greene rout

GREENE – Greene junior Paige Wilcox tallied five more goals in a win over Delhi Thursday, and now has all 12 of the Trojans’ goals this season.
Wilcox scored her first goal on the breakaway, but later picked up a pair of assists from Janelle Milk lifting her club to a 4-1 lead at halftime.
After Wilcox scored her fifth goal, she was moved to goalkeeper where she made six saves. “She never practices in goal, but she has great instincts back there and did a great job tonight,” said Greene coach Brandy Stone.
The Trojans (1-0, 2-2) host Sidney next Thursday.

Sidney 2, Oxford 1
SIDNEY – Just two minutes after Oxford pared a two-goal halftime deficit in half, its game with Sidney Thursday was halted due to a lightning storm. Game participants waited an hour for the storm to clear before calling the contest.
Katie Kirk scored 14 minutes into the game for Sidney, and MacKensie Gravelin’s goal upped the Warriors’ lead to two goals by halftime. “We got to the game late and rushed through the warmup. We were sluggish through the first half,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza. “After halftime we were ready to go. We scored the goal to gain some momentum, and then the game was called.”
Oxford returns to play Tuesday at Walton.

BOYS’ SOCCER

HAMILTON – At the Hamilton Optimist Tournament, Sherburne-Earlville advanced to the finals after a coin flip following a lightning delay.
The game was suspended early in the second overtime period with the game still a scoreless tie, said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez.
“We had a great combination play and almost scored the winning goal in the first overtime,” Rodriguez said.
On the play, Nino Magro and Elijah Morris initiated the play with Morris feeding Carter Cole for a one-on-one with Hamilton goalie Tyler Curtis. Curtis made a diving attempt at Cole, whose shot hit the crossbar and was cleared by the Hamilton defense.
The Marauders had another golden opportunity to score when Morris’ rocket header in front of the net in the first half was snared by Curtis. “Curtis had just four saves, but they all were high quality shots,” Rodriguez said.
S-E will meet Cincinnatus in the championship game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Cincy advanced with a 1-0 win over Holland Patent.

GREENE – Playing Genengantslet Golf Club for the second time this season, Norwich posted its lowest team score of the season in a 13-shot loss to the Warriors Thursday.
Zach Wyatt and Charlie Kane, the fifth and sixth men in the CV lineup, finished with matching even-par 35s to lead their team to the win.
“A 203 is a pretty good score for this group on the road, but Chenango Valley is really tough to beat on its home course,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham.
Corey Johnson (37) and Ryan Hagen (38) broke 40 to lead the Purple Tornado (4-3), who host Oneonta Tuesday at Canasawacta Country Club.

Shelby Pettersen had five aces, three kills, and three assists in the Deposit victory.
Shannon McIntyre served four aces and had three assists for UV.
UV is at Unatego Tuesday.
