Sherburne man killed in one-car accident

OTSELIC – A Sherburne man is dead following a one-car rollover at the intersection of Reit Road and state Highway 80 in the Town of Otselic that occurred at approximately 5:45 last night.
Martin Vansteinburg, 37, was pronounced dead shortly after emergency personnel arrived on the scene. A LifeNet helicopter, requested to respond to the site of the crash, was subsequently ordered to stand down.
The Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident and – according to a press release – it’s believed Vansteinburg was traveling east on Hwy. 80 when he exited the eastbound shoulder of the roadway; over corrected; crossed the center line; and struck an earth embankment before overturning the vehicle.
A portion of to roadway was closed to all but emergency traffic for approximately five hours following the accident, re-opening at 11 p.m. The South New Berlin Fire Department, Cooperstown Medical Transport and the New York State Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
