Sherburne fire sends two to hospital

SHERBURNE – An early morning blaze at 281 Maltzan-Sheridan Road in the Town of Sherburne on Monday resulted in two people being hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the fire, first reported shortly after 5:30 a.m.
The Sherburne Fire Department, aided by an engine and tanker from the North Norwich Fire Department, responded to the blaze, which involved a trailer reported as fully engulfed in flames, according to authorities. Two patients – one who allegedly sustained burns from the fire – were hospitalized, one at the Syracuse-based Upstate Medical Center, the other at Community Hospital in Hamilton.
The Smyrna Fire Department was also requested to the scene for additional water supply, said authorities, with additional aid provided by Chenango County Fire coordinators, Norwich Ambulance, Sherburne EMS and Cooperstown Medical Transport.
No further details were available as of press time and it’s believed the fire is still under investigation.
