Gen. Clinton Park hosts fundraiser concert for Toys for Tots

BAINBRIDGE – General Clinton Park will host “Rock in the Park,” a benefit concert for Toys for Tots, Sunday. Gates open at noon and the bands will begin to play at 1 p.m. The minimum price of admission is at least one new, unwrapped toy or a monetary donation per group, but attendees are strongly encouraged to give as much as they can.
“It’s for a good cause,” said organizer Jason Hall. “My wife and I wanted to do something to support the community and we heard Toys for Tots struggled a little last year. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to do something before the snow comes and with Christmas fast approaching.”
Live music and an impulse to fill the void beneath some childrens’ Christmas trees, are not the only draws this weekend. There will also be a raffle, a silent auction, and a Chinese auction for items donated by generous community members and sponsors, said Hall. The list of items to be auctioned this weekend include a brand new kayak, tickets to a Buffalo Bills game, an assortment of authentic jerseys, baskets of wine, and massive new beer coolers.
Hall said he has been pleasantly surprised by the amount of support from the community. “So far everything is looking really nice,” he said. Hall said he’s been able to secure a wide variety of sponsorships thanks to his connections as regional director of sponsorship at Tioga Downs. “I know a lot of sponsors interested in doing something good for the community, and I was able to get them on board for the fundraiser,” he said.
The list of sponsors include: Bath Saver, Tioga Downs Casino, Red Barn Computers, The Magic Paintbrush Project, Global Graphics LLC, Snips & Snails Children’s Consignment, Tri-Valley Beverage, American Fireworks Mfg., UHS and Hackerthreads. There have also been a lot of donations from individuals in Bainbridge, Sidney and Norwich, such as a Cutco knife set worth an estimated $1,200 that will be part of the silent auction, according to the event’s Facebook page.
Hidden Valley Outdoors will also be on site selling food and plans to donate a sizable portion of their proceeds to Toys for Tots.
The concert schedule is as follows:
• The Jason Wicks Band at 1 p.m.
• Wendy Owens and Renegade at 3 p.m.
• Woodshed Prophets at around 4:30.
“Whether it rains or shines Sunday, we hope and pray for good turn out,” said Hall. For more information, go to facebook.com/rockinthepark2012, or call 972-6526.
