Sherburne-Earlville 8, Canastota 1
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville rolled to its fifth win of the season as seven different players scored goals Thursday.
Carter Cole had two goals and two assists to lead the way. Elijah Morris, Kevin Vibbard, Nathan Piazzi, Dan Galvez, Lukas Fetzko, and Sam Caton also scored. For Caton, it was a rare opportunity to come out of his starting goaltender position, and his goal was his first in several seasons on the varsity.
“Canastota graduated quite a bit of their team from last year and are quite young, but we did what we were supposed to do today,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. “It was nice to see the goal scoring production today, and we’re finally healthy. That is a good sign.”
S-E (5-3-1) plays at Ilion Monday.

SOUTH OTSELIC – Central Counties League power, Cincinnatus, scored one goal in each half in blanking the Vikings Wednesday.
Bryant Loomis scored both of the Red Lions’ goals. He tallied on a penalty kick at the 29-minute mark of the opening half following an OV handball in the 18-yard box. Six minutes into the second half, Jesse Constantino, drove the ball up the right wing, and then dropped back a pass to Loomis. Loomis beat one OV defender before netting his second tally.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Greene 5, Oxford 1
OXFORD – The Trojans fired back after falling behind Oxford early in the game. Greene finished with five unanswered goals, four from junior Paige Wilcox, to grab its third win of the season.
Marisa Baldwin scored for Oxford unassisted before Greene responded with two goals to earn a one-goal halftime advantage.
Wilcox, who is on course for her third straight 20-goal-plus season, was marked throughout the game by Oxford’s Lorrin Parks. The few times Wilcox got loose, she capitalized. “As soon as (Paige) got a pass, she tried to make it happen,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza. “She has great foot skills and is lightning fast.”
Julia Beth Taft also scored for Greene in the win.

PLYMOUTH – Norwich’s 22-match home winning streak came to an end Thursday evening in a tiebreaker.
With both teams’ five-person scoring deadlocked, the sixth score came into play to break the tie, and the Black Knights gained the edge by two shots. “The winning streak (at home) is something to be proud of, and we’re happy about that,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham. “Obviously, every streak has to come to an end.”
Corey Johnson and Casey Marson led the Tornado linksters shooting 41 and 43 respectively.
The Black Knights’ Nate Wrighter earned overall medalist honors firing a 38.
Norwich (6-4) hosts Chenango Valley Tuesday.

Johnson City 3, Norwich 1
NORWICH – Johnson City overcame Norwich’s strong start rallying to defeat the Purple Tornado netters Thursday, 22-25, 25-11, 25-21, 25-22.
Kayla Page had 15 kills and 11 digs to lead the Wildcats’ comeback.
Norwich spread out its leaders with Taylor Cook putting away 12 kills, Jacasa Currie picking up seven assists, and Lauren Laughlin topping the defense with 10 digs.
“We had some some fantastic plays, but then would fall short,” said Norwich coach Shelly Alger. “We were coming from behind by eight to 10 points to catch up every game, but just couldn’t get ahead. It was a valiant effort.”

GREENE – Greene’s volleyball team was unable to sustain its good start against Whitney Point losing in four games Thursday, 16-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-24.
Kayli Dickinson served six aces and had five kills for the Trojans (4-3). Mary Messina chipped in with a team-best six kills. Greene is at Afton today.
