Unadilla Valley holds off Sidney rally
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Unadilla Valley 3, Sidney 2
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley survived Sidney’s second-half comeback scoring the winning goal with just under nine minutes to play in Tuesday’s victory.
Sierra Badger’s winning goal came after a crisp crossing pass from Taylor Davis. Badger also had UV’s first goal as the host team constructed a 2-0 halftime advantage. “Both Taylor’s pass and Sierra’s shot were powerful,” said UV coach Janelle Ross. “The defense did not have time to react.”
Nicole Gramstad’s tally gave UV the two-goal edge, but the ebb and flow of the game slowly went Sidney’s way. Two goals within three minutes, the latter from McKenzie Gravelin at the 20-minute mark, knotted the game.
“I felt they might come back because the momentum was different at the start of the second half,” Ross said. “After they scored those two goals, we started to pick up our play again.”
