Greene wins fourth straight MAC title

BOYS’ SOCCER

Greene 3, Unatego 1
OTEGO – Despite some big losses to graduation, chiefly the school’s all-time leading scorer, Alex Driscoll, the Trojans are back on top of the Midstate Athletic Conference.
The Trojans handed Unatego its first loss of the season, and based on the league tiebreaker, earned their fourth straight Midstate Athletic Conference title Wednesday.
The Trojans won their 12th straight game to finish in tie with Unatego with one loss apiece. Greene gained the edge by virtue of yesterday’s head-to-head win. “This was huge, and we showed a lot of determination to get to this point,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “It was very evenly matched, we just cashed in on a couple of opportunities, and they didn’t.”
Down 1-0 in the first half, Chris DaCosta tied the game for Greene, and Neil Barker added the go-ahead goal. Alex Leone tacked on his 21st goal of the season for added insurance.
Defensively, the Trojans moved a striker off the front line and added a defender to combat the speed and offensive talent of Unatego. The defensive adjustment worked, Tallman said. “We felt confident in our game plan, and the kids executed it well,” Tallman said.
