October designated 4-H, Cooperative Extension month

NORWICH – On Tuesday, a member of the Chenango County 4-H club ‘Can-Do Equestrians’ and 4-H Director Janet Pfromm helped proclaim October as Cooperative Extension and 4-H Month in Chenango County.
Hailey Brace, a sophomore at Chenango Forks High School, demonstrated her excellent public speaking skills and described the life lessons she has learned through 10 years of participation in 4-H. “Not only has 4-H given me a place to ride my horse, but I’ve learned public speaking skills, team work, to challenge myself and the value of friendship,” she said after thanking the county’s Board of Supervisors for supporting the program.
In Chenango County, cooperative extension educators partner with the other local organizations and more than 200 volunteers, who contribute their time, talents and leadership, promoting agriculture and sustainability, natural resources, education, youth development and family resources development. October is designated to recognize the accomplishments of 4-H youth, the commitment of volunteer leaders and the commencement of a new 4-H program year.
4-H Director Pfromm said Brace, with her Appaloosa, was one of the top riders in New York and had reached state level competition in public speaking, horse bowl hippology, and dog bowl competitions.
