Class D playoff schedule announced
BINGHAMTON – Section IV Class D football teams learned their fates Tuesday morning as the playoff pairings and regular season games were finally announced.
The matchups were delayed when Spencer-Van Etten filed a protest with Section IV officials citing a conflict in the seedings process. At an early-season football meeting, it was agreed that the top two teams in the four Class D divisions would qualify for the playoffs. However, the Section IV handbook conflicted with that determination stating that the seedings would be determined by a points rating system.
“We had guys going (to scout) six different games Friday and Saturday because we had no idea who we were playing,” said B-G head coach Tim Mattingly Sunday.
Mattingly, whose team is 5-2 on the season, earned a playoff spot and a date at Groton this Friday at 7 p.m. While eight teams in the Class D ranks made the playoffs, the other eight were paired off in non-division crossovers.
In games involving Chenango County teams, Oxford (2-5) will play at Deposit-Hancock Friday, and Unadilla Valley (3-4) will host Delhi on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
