UV finishes with first winning record since 2007

NEW BERLIN – On its senior recognition night, Unadilla Valley’s boys clinched their first winning season since 2007 blanking Sidney Wednesday.
Chris Emerson, Colin Izard, and David Schwab all had goals for UV, and Kyle King made four outstanding saves of shots by Sidney standout, Hunter Sowersby. “We played an outstanding game and controlled the midfield with our trio of Chris (Emerson), Nate Mackey, and Sean Smith,” said UV coach Ryan Houck.
Emerson had the lone first-half goal converting a penalty kick after a Sidney handball in the box. Nate Shackelton set up Schwab’s tally, and Mackey’s pass to Izard led to the final goal.
UV is 7-6-2 on the season, and awaits its sectional tournament pairing.

CROSS COUNTRY

WHITNEY – At the 11-team Whitney Point Invitational Tuesday afternoon, Norwich’s boys placed fourth, while the girls wound up fifth.
Tornado juniors Robert Jeffrey and Matt Murray led the Tornado with fourth- and sixth-place finishes out of 57 runners. Jeffrey, a first-year cross country performer, timed 18:40, while Murray, an established sprinter on the outdoor and indoor track teams, clocking in at 18:50. Nuri Harper was 27th in 20:23, Nick Mooney timed 20:51 for 31st, and Michael Manwarren completed the Tornado’s scoring lineup finishing 37th in 21:19.
Martha Clemens ahead headed up the Tornado ladies winding up 15th in 24:01. Danielle Slate (21st, 24:30); Sydney Chaffee (28th, 25:42), Kristen Slate (37th, 28:12), and Corinne Shea (40th, 29:27) rounded out the NHS lineup.

Delhi 3, Unadilla Valley 2
DELHI – Delhi’s Colleen Byam had eight aces and four kills lifting the Bulldogs to their third win of the season in a five-game victory over Unadilla Valley Tuesday, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23.
Morgan Winters had 10 aces for UV, Shannon McIntyre picked up eight assists, and Haley Benson finished with five kills to go with eight aces.
