DVD Patrol
Prepare for a little scare, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is here with some more DVDs with a bit of a scare to them. Excited about some of the new TV shows and I hope everyone enjoyed our picks from last week. Talked to a few patrollers in passing and they have told me how much they liked “Arrow.” The Toddster has seen it a few times already. Let’s take a look at what we’ve got for this week.
New on DVD
Prometheus - Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and her team go on a search for the secrets that started mankind. She has always gone in search of knowledge and has always found it. However, there are times when you might not like what you find. Shaw’s ship sets down on a mysterious planet and they begin to find strange creatures that begin to take over their bodies. Now they may not survive. Can Elizabeth and what’s left of the team fight their way out before it’s too late? This is the prequel to “Alien” and my sources tell me that another sequel might be in development. Stay tuned!
The Raven - Sometimes the things we enjoy can be taken too far. Just ask Edgar Allen Poe (John Cusack). Poe has enjoyed a career of writing many poems and short stories about murder and mayhem. Someone has taken his work a bit further than they should have. A serial killer has gone on a killing spree in Baltimore and Inspector Fields (Luke Evans) has enlisted the help of Poe to track down who is killing people. They’ll have to move faster after Poe’s fiance Emily (Alice Eve) is kidnapped and now Poe and Fields must find her before it’s too late? Even traveling can be taken too far in the new DVD release of “Chernobyl Diaries” when a group of people visit the site of the nuclear disaster and there are things living there you might not want to meet in a dark alley. Watch with someone you love!
New on Blu Ray
E.T. The Extra Terrestrial - Who says friendship can’t be universal? Eliot (Henry Thomas) was always somebody you wanted to be friends with even if you didn’t know it right away. He gets the shock of his life when he finds a small alien who needs his help and eventually finds out that he needs a way to call home. The longer it takes, though, might not be good because Eliot finds out that our planet isn’t good for him and the authorities want to capture him and study him. Will Eliot and his little friend be able to beat the odds? Directed by Steven Spielberg. Another great series directed by him just out on Blu Ray are “The Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones” now in stores.
New in Theaters
Taken 2 - Family has always been something important to Brian Mills (Liam Neeson). Having retired from the CIA, Brian has been all over the World and is good at what he does or at least what he used to do. A year earlier, his skills were put to the test after his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) was kidnapped. Brian was able to get her back and is now trying to put his spy life behind him. He’s become a private security consultant and invites Kim and his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Jannsen) to Istanbul for a vacation. Their vacation might not be that easy because the same people who kidnapped Kim want revenge on Brian. They get taken and now Kim has to return the favor for Brian. Can they find a way out?
The Toddster’s Take - This was a great sequel! I love a story what gets right down to it and doesn’t waste any time. While it’s true that Kim’s kidnapping has an effect, she doesn’t let it stop her. Neeson doesn’t miss a beat and this is the first sequel he’s ever done. He did a great job and the story was great. They messed with the wrong guy. Catch it!!
Getting ready to review “Alex Cross.” Tyler Perry plays the title role on this one and Medea is nowhere near this one. I’ve also got a new teamup coming up and the team has some ideas. You’ll have to stay tuned on this one. Catch you next week with the Toddster.
