The Greencards bring high-energy Americana to EOH

EARLVILLE – The Greencards known for their high-energy Americana music will play at the Earlville Opera House at 8 p.m. on Saturday. As a result of their energetic live shows, the band was named Best New Band at the Austin Music Awards and won New/Emerging Artist Of The Year at the Americana Music Awards in 2006. They also gained the notice of two of America’s biggest music icons and spent the summer of 2005 opening for Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. Their performance is generously sponsored by Good Nature Brewing; come early to meet the brewers and attend a Brew Tasting for concert goers between 7pm and 8pm.
The Greencards have steadily won increasing acclaim for their Americana music. The band’s releases have topped the Billboard Bluegrass charts. They were nominated for Grammy Awards in the “Best Country Instrumental” category in both 2008 (for their Viridian album) and 2010 (for Fascination). They’ve earned ovations from “newgrass” music devotees at Merlefest and from indie-rock loyalists at Lollapolooza and the Austin City Limits Festival.
Carol Young and Kym Warner are the dynamic duo from down under that started the aptly named Greencards, both outstanding performers while in their native Australia. Raised in New South Wales, Carol Young was nominated for Best Female Vocalist and Best New Talent by the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA). Young also enjoyed two No. 1 Australian singles in 2000 (”True Blue Fool” and “Part of the Past”), which landed her the Australian Independent Country Artist of the Year award.
Kym Warner, from South Australia, was a four-time national mandolin champion of Australia (1994-1997). His “Mando on the Mainland” was nominated for Instrumental of the Year by the CMAA in 1999. He earned a scholarship to the acclaimed bluegrass program at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
Not to be missed, The Greencards bring their energetic truth and beauty to the EOH main stage on October 20th. Tickets are $20 for the general public, $18 for EOH members, and $15 for students. The EOH Theater is wheelchair-accessible with a ramp and a lift. Come early taste Good Nature Brewing’s new beer or to visit the East and West Gallery exhibitions, our Artisan’s Gift Shop and our Arts Café!
