No rust for Greene after long layoff

GREENE – Any rust remaining from a two-week layoff was wiped off quickly in Greene’s Class C playoff victory over Harpursville Thursday.
The Trojans scored 2 1/2 minutes into the contest, and built a 4-0 halftime lead in the school’s first-ever sectional playoff game in the Class C ranks. Colleen Dietrich tallied on penalty corner tipping in Jahna Driscoll’s hard drive from the top of the circle. “We’ve had some really good practices leading up to this game,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “We were sharp with our passing, and all of our goals were nice. Everyone got into the game and played a lot.”
Emma Anderson had two goals, Driscoll, Jessica Durdon, Emily Conroe, and Paige Castle added tallies. Castle’s goal was especially pretty in Carlin’s estimation. “Jessica (Durdon) passed the ball from midfield to Elaina (Engler),” Carlin said recalling the last goal. “Elaina carried it about 30 yards and centered to Paige for the goal.”
Greene (14-0) hosts the winner of Whitney Point and Hancock on Tuesday.
