Oxford Primary Schoolers honor veterans

OXFORD – Last Friday, in honor of Veterans Day, Oxford Primary School hosted 10 veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Some of the visiting veterans were the parents and even grandparents of Oxford students. The veterans introduced themselves to the students told them about their service to the nation.
“After they introduced themselves and told about where and when they served, the parents, teachers and students spontaneously gave them a standing ovation,” said primary school teacher Paula Williams. After the applause the 3rd and 4th graders sang “Hero In This Place,” based on a video made by the Tussing Elementary in Colonial Heights, Va. “They brought tears to our eyes,” said Williams.
The Kindergartens, 1st and 2nd graders followed the 3rd and 4th graders’ preformance with a rendition of “God Bless the USA” and afterwards the veterans socialized amongst themselves and talked in greater depth with the teachers, while sharing refreshments. “It was a moving and great way to start the day,” said Williams.
