Norwich Sports Hall of Fame announces induction class
NORWICH – After several months of deliberation and consideration of numerous nominees, the Norwich High School Sports Hall of Fame announces its 2013 induction class.
Athletes are Louis Newton (class of 1928); Fred Swertfager (class of 1956), and Bobby Lazor (class of 1994). Also honored is Norwich boys varsity swimming founder and coach, George Echentile; Bob Van Tine, longtime contributor to Norwich athletics; and lastly the unbeaten and championship-winning 1952 varsity football team.
“The Hall of Fame committee is very pleased with its selections this year,” said said NHS Hall of Fame committee member, Jim Dunne. “We could have easily selected more, but we feel this is the right number for this year.”
The induction dinner is scheduled for Saturday, May 11 2013 at Canasawacta Country Club. Profiles of this year’s class of honorees will appear in the weeks subsequent to the induction dinner.
