DVD Patrol
Happy anniversary, Patrollers! It’s hard to believe that the DVD Patrol has been around for seven years now and it seems like just yesterday that the Toddster has been bringing everything movies to you. One dedication coming, but more on that later. Here we are!
New on DVD
Brave - Merida wants to do things her way, but she comes from an very strict culture when she is expected to do what is required just because she is the princess. Things don’t go her way when she finds out that doing things her way may set a curse in motion that may hurt the family and the kingdom. Merinda has to go on a quest to undo the damage she has caused. Can she do it? Another great DVD just out is “Arthur Christmas” and is out right now.
Maximum Conviction - Two action heroes unite for the first time. Tom Steele (Steven Seagal) and his long time partner Manning (Steve Austin) have been in the business for a long time and there have been times they haven’t had all the information. Their latest assignment has them supervising the closing of a prison. In the middle of the job, a couple of new prisoners arrive with very little information on them. To make matters worse, a team of mercenaries come in to take them out. Now Steele and Manning have to figure out what’s happening and stay alive. Can they do it? Another movie just coming out on DVD starring John Travolta is “Savages” available in stores.
Also on DVD
Twilight - It’s always fun to go back to the beginning. Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) mother was getting remarried and she needed a change of scenery so she decided to go visit her Dad in Forks, Washington. She starts to settle in and meets a mysterious student named Edward (Robert Pattinson). Bella starts to notice that Edward has some strange habits but at the same time she is fascinated by him. She finds out later that he is really a Vampire but that doesn’t seem to faze her. At the same time, some strange killings are going on and everything points to Edward and his family. Can Bella find out the truth about her new friend? The end is near for Stewart and Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 2” now in theaters.
New in Theaters
Skyfall - James Bond is back in action and better than ever. Bond (Daniel Craig) is sent to retrieve a list when the mission goes bad. His Superior M (Judi Dench) makes a choice that pushes Bond’s loyalty to the breaking point. Bond is left for dead and some time later returns with mixed feelings. MI-6 comes under fire with M in the line of fire and a terrorist named Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem) leading the charge. Silva thinks he can push Bond’s buttons and possibly lure him over to the dark side. Silva may not know who he’s messing with. James decides the only way to protect M is to take her somewhere safe. Can Bond save her and stop Silva at the same time?
The Toddster’s Take - On this one, Daniel Craig really redeemed himself with this one. His last one, Quantum of Solace, wasn’t one of his better ones but this one was just terrific. The story was a great improvement. It was a bit tense for awhile because the movie had some trouble getting made with the Studio being having money troubles. With the addition of Director Sam Mendes, Craig was able to secure the movie and the rest of it just fell into place. Without giving anything away, some familiar things from the Bond legend do appear but you’ll have to check out for yourself. Worth your time!
My Mom would have been 75 years old, but she’s no longer with us. When I first started doing this column, she would cut my column out of the paper and save it in an album. I miss her but I like to think she watches over me. Our teamup featuring 007 is just around the corner ,so stay tuned for that. The Toddster will be back.
