County budget hearing tonight

NORWICH – A public hearing of the Chenango County 2013 draft budget has been set for 7 tonight in the supervisors’ chambers in the County Office Building in Norwich. The tentative plan complies with the state’s 2 percent cap on property tax increases, and calls for a tax increase, on average, of 30 cents, or $12.84 per $1,000 of assessed value. The 2013 levy would aim to raise $24.3 million on appropriations of $86.7 million for government programs and services, or 2.46 percent more than in 2012. Members of the public are welcome to attend and to speak.
