SOUTH OTSELIC – Blessed Virgin Mary was denied the winning basket with less than 10 seconds to play as Otselic Valley corralled the missed shot and ran out the clock in an opening-game win Tuesday.
“It wasn’t particularly well played by either team today, and kind of what you expect from a first game,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “It was close the whole way, and it is a good way to start the season.”
Sophmore Jason Olin and senior Brandon Huntley led the Vikings with 11 points apiece. The Vikes host Tyburn Academy on Thursday.

GREENE – Greene raced to a 22-0 lead after one quarter, and crusied past Section III Otselic Valley in Tuesday’s non-league season-opener.
Rebecca Smith scored eight points in the first quarter, and Kaitlin Gorton steered the Trojans’ fast-breaking offense picking up five assists during the opening stanza. “We did the things I expected we would do and could do,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We rebounded well and we passed it well.”
Coach Gorton said his team finished with 18 assists on 24 baskets. Smith led with 18 points, and Tiffany Borst came off the bench to net 10. Greene hosts Hancock on Friday.

EARLVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville senior Dylan Baker got off to a hot start in the Marauders’ opening-match win over Herkimer, Tuesday at Hi-Skor Lanes.
Baker rolled a match-high 638 series highlighted by a high game of 246. Jonny Sulton added a 225 game for the Marauders.
