Cosby Gibson at 6 On The Square in Oxford tonight
OXFORD – Tonight, at 7:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) welcomes singer-songwriter Cosby Gibson to their stage as part of their monthly Emerging Artist Series. In just a short while, Cosby has been very busy writing, touring, and singing; developing her contemporary folk style and a following.
Cosby Gibson is from Richfield Springs and comes from a family with a rich background in music and performing arts. Her lilting soprano vocals are accompanied by her lively strumming, acoustic guitar playing. Cosby sings poetic lyrics of mysterious mountains, imaginative nature and of early settlers during the birth of our nation. Entering her world of song, Gibson creates a calming atmosphere.
She began writing and singing contemporary Folk music just five years ago and already has an impressive show resumé on both sides of “the pond.” Performances in the United States include over 275 events, including 6OTS Open Mics, with appearances in all media: print, radio, and television! One recent performance in Brussels, Belgium, recalls an audience of more than one hundred people that included a warm ‘welcome’ reception of De Kam Folk Club members after the show.
“It’s almost as if Cosby composes from another time, simpler, more honest, more concise, without frivolous self-importance.... Follow Cosby’s footsteps through the forest, to a cabin with a stone fireplace, warm and inviting.” --Greg Jackson, Upstate Live
When Cosby isn’t writing or performing in music venues, she’s been doing some philanthropic work with fellow performers under the name of “The Flying Song Garden.” This is a non-profit project she developed that involves transporting a stage to communities hit with hardships, such as natural disasters. They perform uplifting songs and bring festivity to help restore community spirit.
Gibson has been exploring our historic past, being drawn by the daily life and hardships of American pioneers. Her interest in these settlers has resulted in a series of songs depicting their experiences, which inspired her new album, “American Dreams.”
Tickets for this performance are $5 (plus a $2 ticket service charge). Doors open one-hour prior to show time.
Also, don’t miss these future performances: The Burns Sisters on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. and Snowday on Dec. 22 at 7:30 are holiday shows. Bob Franke on Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open one-hour prior to show time. Visit the website at www.6onthesquare.org for tickets and future event information.
While at 6OTS -or before the show- be sure to view the wildlife paintings by Norwich artist, Johanna Lerwick on exhibit now thru Jan. 27. There’s also a window display of the Oxford Academy School students’ Recycled Holiday Ornaments.
6OTS is located at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford. Phone:843-OTS6 (6876).
