Visit the Christmas Market at 6 On The Square
OXFORD – Francis K. Wilcox, Oxford artist, will be turning 6 On The Square (6OTS) into a Christmas Market again for one week. This holiday shopping venue was enthusiastically received last year, and Francis is happy to be returning for another season. From Saturday, Dec. 8 through Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., everyone is invited to come to the marketplace where you’ll find something for everyone, produced or handmade right in Oxford.
Joining in the Market will be Linda Meek of “Petals & Pretty Things” with her silk floral arrangements and wreaths as well as quilted fabric and crocheted creations. John Knapp of “Knapp Knoll Woodworks” will feature hand created toys and gifts for all ages; heirlooms of tomorrow made with Oxford hardwoods. Lawrence and Nolan Wilcox of “Wilcox Maple Products” will be stocking a display of maple syrups/butters/candied nuts and more, including boxed gift sets all made from the sap of Oxford maple trees.
Working mostly in acrylics, Francis Wilcox captures beauty in the ‘everyday’ country scenery and is preserving our ever-changing landscape in his art. The beautiful paintings Wilcox offers at this year’s display are regional art, mostly scenes of rural, upstate New York; many are of the Oxford area. This past summer season, he has been engaged in “Plein Aire” painting and sketching along Route 38 between Richford and Owego. There are several paintings of old dairy barns, train stations and churches of Tioga County. Wilcox has framed giclee prints of a collage of scenes in Oxford which he painted at the time of the Oxford Bicentennial. This picture features a double exposure of the old river bridge which was to have been replaced that year. The double exposure idea allows the viewer to see objects from both sides of the bridge. Other buildings included are the Old Oxford Bank, the Middle School, the Fire House and Library and the Washington Park pagoda. They’re all for sale, and they are being collected by a strong Wilcox following, so don’t delay. Francis will also take custom painting orders. There are note cards sets with Wilcox’s art too which would make a nice stocking stuffer.
Come in and browse; you’ll find the creativity inspiring. You can contact Francis at fkwilcox@frontiernet.net or call 843-9246. 6 On The Square, Inc. is located at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford. www.6onthesquare.org, 843-OTS6 (6876).
