Norwich competes at Finger Lakes Invitational
ITHACA – Norwich girls Brooke Bonney and Morgan Hagenbuch set new girls indoor track and field records Friday evening at the Finger Lakes Invitational.
Bonney threw the shot put 36 feet and 1/2-inch to place first, while Hagenbuch ran her preliminary heat in the 55-meter hurdles in a record 9.36 seconds. She would ultimately place third overall in 9:56.
Other to place among the top three were Robert Jeffrey in the 3,200 meters (third, 10:35), the 1,600-meter relay quartet of Nuri Harper, Colby Griffin, Cameron Prime, and Adrian Moses (third, 3:52.29), and Matt Murray in the 1,600 meters (third, 4:48.11). Interestingly, Murray lost a shoe during the race and ran the final 800 meters with just one piece of footwear.
Overall, the Tornado boys placed eighth out of 30 teams, while the girls were ninth among 30 team entrants.

Mount Markham 3, S-E 2
WEST WINFIELD – Mount Markham handed Sherburne-Earlville its first loss of the season Friday night in a five-game affair, 25-23, 16-25, 13-25, 25-11, 25-11.
After losing a tight opening game, the Lady Marauders took the Mustangs to the brink of defeat with a pair of lopsided wins in the second and third games. However, S-E failed to put away the unbeaten Mt. Markham squad as the Mustangs (3-0) rallied to win the final two games by identical scores.
"Mount Markham's a tremendous team and I thought our girls gave them all they could handle," said S-E coach Ed Holmquist. "We're one or two plays away from a sweep. We're still an inexperienced team, so hopefully we can learn from this and move forward. We played hard, unfortunately we just didn't finish."
Emily Timian led the Mustangs with 15 kills, while Brianna Wichowsky paved the way with 26 digs.
The Lady Marauders were led by Julia Opolka who had 10 kills, four blocks and 21 digs, while Destinie Holmquist added a team-high seven aces.
S-E (1-1) returns to action tonight as it travels to Boonville to take on Adirondack
