Pillow Pals
Sherburne Girl Scout Troops 313, 12 and 421 are continuing collections for the “Pillow Pals” Gold Award Take Action Project with the help of Storm Hammond, Sherburne-Earlville Elementary School art teacher. Hammond is the advisor for the Elementary Art Club and the “Nickels for Neighbors” Program. The children in these programs have collected and donated small toys, stuffed animals, socks, toothbrushes, scarves, school and art supplies, fun jewelry and other useful items. Another contributor to the project was Cazenovia Equipment Company, which donated dozens of small John Deere toy tractors. These items along with afghans, quilts and hygiene supplies, that have been collected by the Girl Scouts, will be put in custom made child motif pillow cases and given to the S-E School nurses for distribution to local children. Many of the pillowcases, quilts, and afghans were made by local quilters and knitters organized by Diane Marvin, owner of Sew Nice Quilt shop in Norwich. So far this Take Action Project has made donations of filled pillowcases for deserving children and adults to the Dept. of Social Services, Catholic Charities, Faith Baptist Church, Pratt Newton Home, and the Sherburne-Earlville School District.
