NEW BERLIN – It’s been nine days since 36-year-old Jennifer L. Ramsaran went missing and law enforcement officials remain at a loss as to her whereabouts after spending the past two days executing a number of search warrants at her 473 Sheff Road residence in the Town of New Berlin.
Ramsaran was last seen the morning of Dec. 11 when she allegedly told her husband, Ganesh Remy Ramsaran, she was planning a trip to Destiny USA in Syracuse to do some shopping. Her cell phone was discovered the next day on State Route 23 in the Town of Plymouth near Moon Hill Road, while her 2006 Chrysler Town and County minivan was located at Plank Road Manor, Plymouth Street in the City of Norwich.
Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. said law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police, New York State Park Rangers, Sheriff’s Office and New Berlin and Norwich police departments are “making some headway,” but admitted the process is both slow and tedious. Ramsaran’s family, including her husband and three children, have all been interviewed, and Cutting said he hoped to have the search of the family’s home and surrounding 18 acres wrapped up sometime today.
“We’re going to keep plugging away,” he added. “Hopefully we finish up things at the house today and we’ll continue moving forward from there.”
The Sheriff’s Office is also waiting on forensic results for electronic devices, said Cutting, and the various law enforcement agencies working the case will evaluate the situation once those results come in before making any decisions as to how to proceed. The process, he added, takes time.
“Some of that information will take weeks to gather,” said the sheriff.
The search of the Ramsarans’ 18 acres has been thorough, according to officials, although Cutting admitted it’s “a lot of area” to cover. Police are continuing to look for any online activity, as well, to no avail.
“We haven’t seen any activity on her Facebook or other accounts.”
According to Cutting, Ramsaran and her husband had discussed separating at some point in the past, and Ganesh Ramsaran was “frustrated with the amount of time” his wife was spending on the computer playing an undisclosed online game.
“It led to some disagreements ... there was some conflict with that, a little friction,” stated Cutting.
Those conflicts, however, were of the typical marriage variety, he added, stating that, as far as he knew, there have been no reported domestic incidents of any kind involving the couple.
As for foul play, Cutting said it’s impossible to tell at this point.
“We really don’t know,” stated Cutting. “I’m concerned. Any time this length of time goes by and there’s been no contact, that concerns me.”
Cutting noted that Ramsaran’s oldest daughter recently celebrated a birthday and participated in a school play.
“Those are kind of milestones as far as family and mother-daughter relationships go,” he added. “We’re continuing to search phones, computers ... it’s a tedious, lengthy process to go through.”
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information of Ramsaran’s whereabouts to contact its command post at 337-1992. All calls are confidential.
