Celebrate the season with “Snowday” at 6OTS

OXFORD – This Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to present the mega-musical-talents of Snowday. Their special holiday music fuses tradition with Folk, Alt-Country, Celtic and World music influenced flavors; creating fresh, stunning renditions. No one can make that work better than the renowned Kevin McKrell, Sara Milonovich, Kate McKrell, and Brian Melick!
Hearing the name “snowday” as a child, always conjured up thoughts of a carefree day of fun. Well, when the McKrells, Milonovich and Melick join their creative, multi-accomplished forces, you can plan for a grown-up carefree evening of fun!
Celtic Folk singer-songwriter Kevin McKrell has been a founding member of some very popular bands; most notably, the Celtic group Donnybrook Fair and, of course the Celtic Bluegrass Band, The McKrells. He and his bands have appeared on the stages of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to standing ovations. His songs have been recorded and performed by many groups around the world including The Furey Brothers, Seamus Kennedy, and folk giants, The Kingston Trio.
Sara Milonovich is an award winning, fiddle playing musical talent. This versatile virtuoso can easily switch from a Celtic ballad to upbeat, foot stompin’ bluegrass. You may have seen Sara at 6OTS with her band Daisycutter; she has performed throughout the US and Europe. A Grammy semifinalist, Milonovich is ‘at home’ in the Americana roots, folk-rock, bluegrass, Celtic, and Appalachian music scenes.
Brian Melick is a drummer and multi-hand, world-beat percussionist. He’s been involved in music for over thirty years, knows percussion inside and out, and his playful enthusiasm still shows. He imbues music with a rich repertoire of drumming rhythms, and is highly sought after for performances and recordings by other major artists. Brian has been featured on over 350 commercially recorded works for well known clients such as TDK, GE, and Scholastic. He is an inventor (holding three patents), and an educator.
Together, Snowday has the striking three-part harmonies of Kevin, Sara and Kate combined with Sara’s brilliant fiddling and Brian’s deft percussion and comic hijinks. Celebrate the season with their sublime and beautiful renditions of holiday songs along with old favorites from The McKrells’ Christmas show, including riotous versions of “A Visit from Saint Nick” and “The 12 Days of Christmas.”
Unwind from the season’s stress and take a Snowday. Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $15, (plus $2 service charge) until the date of the performance and $18 at the door. Ticket price for students, under age 18, are always $2; please call to make a student reservation! Doors open one-hour prior to show time.
While at 6OTS -or before the show- be sure to view wildlife paintings by Norwich artist, Johanna Lerwick on exhibit through Jan. 27.
Also, don’t miss these New Year performances: Bob Franke on Jan. 12, and Pierce and Grace Pettis on Jan. 19, both at 7:30 p.m. Doors open one-hour prior to show time. For further information, call 843-OTS6 (6876) or visit the website at www.6onthesquare.org.
