Oxford 41, Walton 28

OXFORD – Oxford’s pressure defense led to its best first of the season as the Blackhawks built a 17-point lead in Thursday’s win over visiting Walton.

Megan Golden scored 17 of her career-high 21 points in the opening 16 minutes leading her club to a 24-7 advantage. Most of Golden’s points came in transition following Walton turnovers. “They had trouble with our halfcourt trap, and that led to some easy baskets,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “That was the difference in the game.”

Rachel Seiler finished with eight points for the Blackhawks, who also received six rebounds from senior Sarah Renaud. The Blackhawks play at Hancock Monday.
