Norwich 71, Owego 39

NORWICH - Norwich reacquainted itself with its home floor Wednesday night hosting its first game in 34 days. After a sluggish start, the Tornado warmed to the task rolling past visiting Owego.

Danny Carson led with 16 points, Cody Barnes had a season-high 15, Mike Oralls contributed 13, and reserve Michael D’Abbraccio had his best varsity game piling up nine points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists.

“He has always been capable of this,” said Norwich coach Tom Collier of D’Abbraccio. “He had a good week of practice, and we were hoping he would play well tonight.”

D’Abbraccio, Barnes, Oralls, and Grant Brightman were a big part of Norwich’s second-half blowout. After Owego scored the first nine points of the third quarter, the Tornado proceeded on a 30-7 spurt of its own. The four aforementioned players, all forwards in the Norwich offense, played “buddy ball” Collier said depending on which ones were on the floor. “They’re each other’s low post buddy, that’s why we call it ‘buddy ball,’” Collier said. “They did a great job looking for each other and sharing the ball.”

Dylan Angulas had two early second-half buckets for Owego, and Tyler Ford’s driving layup drew the Indians to within 35-27 prompting a Norwich timeout. From that point, it was all Norwich.
