Brother Sun, a benefit concert at 6OTS tonight

OXFORD – PEO members still have some tickets to the talented trio, Brother Sun, who will be performing at 6 On The Square (6OTS) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The three rich voices weave a tapestry of harmony that is brilliantly fresh. The community is invited to an unforgettable evening of moving music while benefiting the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).
Brother Sun are nationally touring folk artists from three major points on the map - Greg Greenway of Boston, Pat Wictor of New York, and Joe Jencks of Chicago. The harmonies and lyrics sung by Pat, Greg, and Joe celebrate the amazing power of singing together, and their music is warm as a campfire, stirring as a gospel church, and rousing as a call to arms. Fusing folk, Americana, blues, pop, jazz, rock, and a cappella singing, Brother Sun is an explosion of musical diversity and harmony, in the finest of male singing traditions.
The amazing power demonstrated by the blending of Brother Sun’s talents is appropriately paired with this fundraiser for the Philanthropic Educational Organization or PEO. PEO began in 1869, with a few enthusiastic members devoted to helping each other reach challenging educational goals. Today, they are an amazing group of nearly a quarter of a million women with a history of benevolence and involvement. PEO contributes to the betterment of women everywhere with more than a half-dozen well-funded scholarships.
Aside from this concert, the local PEO chapter, Chapter CG, is involved in several other charitable drives. Each May, they hold a special Open House at Gallery 3-2-1, and they also have a bi-annual fall Auction event with progressive hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Friday night, the 6OTS refreshment counter will be offering a great assortment of home baked goodies such as pies, cakes, cookie bars, and cheese and cracker plates made by the PEO “sisters.” In addition, there will be raffle tickets for a chance to win a “Lotto Tree,” (which is a tree full of lotto tickets). These raffle tickets can be purchased at the concert as well as from PEO members in advance. Call 843-6953 or email lhoenninger@hotmail.com for a PEO member near you.
Concert tickets, available online in advance or at the door, for this evening of exceptional music, are $20 per person, (plus $2 online service charge) - it’s for a great cause! Visit 6OTS at www.6onthesquare.org. 6OTS doors open at 6:30 p.m. that evening.
PEO would like to recognize and thank all the sponsors who made this possible: Golden Artists, Oxford Motors, Rebecca Giltner, Anna Stark, Jean Rogers, Oxford & Greene Physical Therapy, Bartle’s Pharmacy, the Little Boy’s Shop and two Anonymous donors.
Also, don’t miss these future performances: Emerging artist, Spectacular Average Boys on Thrs., Feb. 7; and The Stray Birds Fri., Feb. 15; both at 7:30 p.m. Doors open one-hour prior to show time. For further information, call (843-OTS6 (6876) or visit the website at www.6onthesquare.org for tickets and future event information.
While at 6OTS - or before the show- be sure to view the wildlife paintings by Norwich artist, Johanna Lerwick on exhibit through Jan. 27. From Feb. 8 to March 23, the fantasy artwork of Michael Price will follow, with an opening reception on February 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
