Chenango snowmobilers gather for Snowblast Saturday
McDONOUGH – The Chenango County Snowmobile Federation sponsors the third annual Snowblast and first-ever breast cancer awareness destination ride from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Brackel Bar & Grill, 107 Kinney Rd., McDonough. Dubbed ‘Riding the Bumps to get Rid of the Lumps,’ the ride will benefit individuals in New York State who are struggling with breast cancer.
If there’s still enough snow Saturday, eight snowmobile clubs will take off on their own destination rides ending at the Brackel Bar & Grill. Activities will be held at the bar from noon to 4 p.m., regardless of weather conditions.
More than 30 businesses have already contributed to this weekend’s event, including the Sundown Golf Course in Guilford, Raymond Corporation, the Silo Restaurant in Greene, Preston Snowmobile LLC, and many others. Each business made a minimum donation of $50 to merit the title of supporting sponsor. Joining the Chenango County Snowmobile Federation this Saturday will be two members of the Pink Ribbon Riders, a volunteer organization from Michigan, whose mission is to financially assist individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. The proceeds from this weekend’s events will be donated directly to the Pink Ribbon Riders, who in turn will disseminate it to individuals in New York who are combating the disease.
“Every family is touched by breast cancer,” said Snowblast organizer Sandy Rhodes. “Everyone has breasts and people struggling with breast cancer really need financial aid.”
People will be able to take rides in the Chenango Sno Riders’ massive groomer which can sit up to five people, provided there is enough snow on the ground. There will also be dealer demo rides from snowmobile vendors such as Preston Snowmobile LLC, K & E Sled Shop, and CNY Power Sled. Beaches Conference Center of Rome, which is located off of the C7 snowmobile trail, will be present to talk about their business. There will also be food concessions and a vintage sled show.
The Pink Ribbon Riders are a 501c3 organization and any donation made are tax deductible. Eight snowmobile groups from Chenango and the surrounding area have been working together for months to organize this year’s Snowblast.
The CCSF also intends to promote the safe and considerate use of snowmobiles for recreational activities during the short cold days of winter.
Chenango County’s 300 miles of snowmobile trails connects to an estimated 10,000 miles of trail throughout the state, according to Rhodes.
Also part of this weekend’s event will be a sled decoration competition in support of the fight against breast cancer. There will be a breast cancer awareness ‘supporting rider award’ as well as raffles with prizes donated by the sponsors.
