DVD Patrol

Here We Are, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been in full trailer mode and what does this mean? It means the Toddster watched the Super Bowl and saw most of the new movie trailers that are on the way with “The Lone Ranger,””Iron Man 3,” and “Fast and Furious 6” just to name a few. More on that in future patrols. There is a full week this time around. Let’s check the vault.

New on DVD

Alex Cross - Sooner or later, we always get a chance to see how someone got their start. Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) was just starting out in his career as a detective and psychologist working for the police. Alex has always been someone who has worked to find or help those who needed to be helped or stopped. Matthew Sullivan (Matthew Fox) has been all these things but just as the exact opposite. He’s gone on a killing spree in Cross’s city and now he wants to match wits with him. Sullivan decides to make it personal after he sets his sights on Cross’s wife. This sets the detective off on a dangerous road that he may not be able to return from. Will Cross be able to stop Sullivan? Perry is mostly known for his dramas and comedies and by checking the vault, you can find these. “Tyler Perry’s Medea’s Witness Protection,” “Tyler Perry’s The Family That Preys,” and “Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns” available on DVD in stores now.

Flight - Most of the time people just want to go to work and do their jobs to the best of their ability. There are some jobs that require you to be great. Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington) was an airline pilot and good at his job. Whitaker has had a lot in his career that he could handle but now he’s about to be put to the test. Whip’s plane finds itself in trouble and he has to crash it in order to save his passengers. Whip does just that and everyone thinks of him as a hero. However, as Whip’s superiors investigate the events behind the crash, they find a few things that don’t seem to add up. One of the things they find that might put Whip’s career in jeopardy is he may have been drinking on the job which could’ve led to the crash. Can Whip survive the fallout that might be coming from this investigation? Check out the Oscars on February 24 to see if Washington wins for this role for Best Actor (Incidentally the 24th is also the Toddster’s birthday).

Also on DVD

Peter Pan - Cartoon Spotlight has a classic for you from the Great Walt Disney and everyone loves to have their inner kid come out once and a while. What if you’re a kid all the time? Peter and his lost boys come from Never Never Land. Peter, with his pal Tinkerbell, come into the real world and find Wendy and her brothers. He decides to take them on a trip to Neverland to have some fun. Having fun in Neverland may not be all it’s cracked up to be when they run into Captain Hook and his band of pirates. The Captain doesn’t exactly like Peter because in one of their last battles, Peter cost the Captain the use of his hand. Now the old pirate sees Peter with his new friends and goes to kidnap them to lure Peter into a last battle. Is Peter going to be able to rescue them and get his friends back? Disney is never at a loss for movies with a couple on the way. James Franco and Mila Kunis team for “The Great and Powerful Oz” in theaters March 8 and Johnny Depp returns to Disney in a new role as Tonto for “The Lone Ranger” with Armie Hammer stepping into the role on July 3.

Here Comes The Boom - Earning extra money for the things you want is never easy and it’s tricky finding the right job. Scott Voss (Kevin James) has been a teacher for a while and working in a high school has its challenges. He’s about to find just that. Scott discovers during the latest meeting the school is about to cut the music program and let the music teacher go. Scott doesn’t want this to happen and tries to find a way to raise money to keep the music program for the kids. Scott finds a way but he’s not in the greatest shape for what he wants to do. Becoming a mixed martial arts fighter is a quick way to earn some fast cash but he doesn’t even know how to fight. Scott hits some bumps in the road starting out but makes a name for himself after the public finds out about what he’s trying to do. Can Scott raise the money without getting himself killed in the process? James made a name for himself being a standup comic and on the TV Hit “King of Queens.” Now he’s been finding success in movies like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Grown Ups,” and “Zookeeper” that you can find on DVD in stores right now.
A certain secret agent joins the DVD Patrol coming soon. The Toddster will be bringing a some special columns in the next few weeks with the team returning for their first teamup for 2013. What will they have in store? Wait and see! The Toddster comes back next time.
