Golden reaches 1,000 career points in Oxford loss

SIDNEY – Oxford senior Andrew Golden reached the 1,000-point mark for his career in the second quarter Saturday, but it came in the midst of a dominant quarter for Sidney as the Blackhawks fell in the MAC semifinals.
Golden scored all 11 of Oxford’s points in the second, but four straight turnovers for the ‘Hawks at one point turned a tight ballgame into a double-digit lead for the Warriors.
“To be honest, I think some fatigue set in, and we started to make some poor decisions,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “I played the starters the first 10 minutes, maybe I should have subbed sooner.”
Sidney outscored Oxford 23-11 in the second to open a 13-point halftime lead. Brandon Walters and Billy Kozak hit for 19 points apiece in the victory. In the previous meeting with Oxford, the same twosome totaled 13 points.
Golden finished with 18 points to push his career total to 1,013. Paul Wonka added 12 points. The Blackhawks play the loser of Unatego and Greene Thursday or Friday.
