Three appear in court

NORWICH – Three individuals charged with a variety of felony and misdemeanor crimes appeared in Chenango County Court Friday. Two were sentenced to probation following guilty pleas while a third pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
• Nathan A. Diamond, 33, New Berlin, pleaded not guilty to charges of third degree attempted burglary and third degree criminal mischief, both class E felonies.
Indicted by a Chenango County grand jury in January, it’s alleged that Diamond – on or about Dec. 16 and in concert with another – attempted to break a glass door at the New Berlin Service Pharmacy with the intent to enter and commit the crime of larceny. After attempts to break the door were unsuccessful, Diamond and his co-defendant allegedly fled the scene and were later located in Otsego County, according to authorities.
Diamond’s bail was continued at $1,000 and he was scheduled to re-appear in court at a later date.
• Bruce H. Cosens, 42, Sherburne, was sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to one count of fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property.
In December, Cosens pleaded not guilty to two counts, each of fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony; and fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class A misdemeanor. It was alleged that Cosens, on or about July 30, did commit the crime of criminal possession of stolen property following an incident that occurred in the Town of Guilford.
• Stephen E. Hammond, 35, Oxford, was sentenced to three years probation and a one year conditional discharge – to run concurrently – after pleading guilty to charges of second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class A misdemeanor; and driving while ability impaired, a violation.
Hammond was indicted by a Chenango County grand jury in November, originally charged with first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony; and driving while ability impaired by alcohol. In December, Hammond pleaded not guilty to all charges.
It’s alleged that Hammond, in August of 2012 in the Town of Oxford, unlawfully operated a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol while knowing or having reason to know his NYS driver’s license was revoked or suspended, according to his indictment.
