Crouch petitions to repeal NY SAFE Act
ALBANY –
Assemblyman Clifford W. Crouch (R-Guilford) today launched an on-line petition to repeal the controversial NY SAFE Act, the new gun-control legislation pushed through the legislature by Gov. Cuomo last month. The petition can be found on Crouch’s official Assembly web page at http://bit.ly/CrouchRepealPetition.
“The NY SAFE Act does not accomplish the goal of protecting families and our communities as it says it does. In fact, it completely missed the mark,” said Crouch. “It failed to address the root cause of the horrific acts in Newtown and elsewhere, which is without a doubt a mental health issue. We now have a controversial law that infringes on the rights of law-abiding firearm owners by treating them as criminals, among many other things, and it does nothing to actually address the violence that is committed by people with illegal firearms across the state. This is why I have decided to launch this petition.”
Crouch noted that he will be participating in #NY2A Day on Thursday, Feb. 28 in Albany, when a legislative day and rally are scheduled for supporters, constituents, sportsmen, businesses and those who are opposed to the NY SAFE Act.
“People are very upset about this new law,” said Crouch. “Let’s face it; criminals are not going to follow the law and the need to amend or repeal legislation has never been more evident. We have a situation where government is telling millions of law-abiding firearm owners to register their weapons that they legally own and possess, and if they don’t, they will be slapped with a criminal record. That concept goes against the guarantees of the Second Amendment. I urge everyone to sign my petition and tell the governor and legislative leaders that our voices deserve to be heard.”
