United Way mini golf event tees off this weekend
NORWICH – The fourth annual Chenango United Way mini golf event is set to tee-off this Saturday, from noon to 9 p.m., at the American Legion on Sheldon Street in Norwich.
Participants are invited to enjoy a round of mini golf at $3 per person or $10 for a team of four during Chenango County’s most elaborate ensemble of miniature golf obstacles. Money raised during the indoor event will go toward next year’s United Way fundraising campaign, which helps fund numerous non-profit agencies county-wide.
With 18 holes sponsored by a number of local businesses and organizations including Chenango United Way’s corporate sponsors NBT, Unison, Frontier, Sidney Federal Credit Union and Snyder Communications, the day promises to be a fun time for family and friends who also want to chip in for a good cause.
“This has really become a family favorite over the years. People really seem to enjoy it,” said United Way Director Elizabeth Monaco, noting that the event was once held as a traditional golf tournament at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich but only in recent years was it changed to a mini golf tournament to get more families and participants involved. “This year, about a third of the golf holes are new. And our corporate sponsors love it. They think it’s so unique, and hands on, and it’s a good way for them to promote their businesses too.”
