Driver could have faced death following one-car rollover
NORWICH – The City of Norwich Fire Department and Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a one car motor vehicle accident shortly before 4:30 p.m. yesterday on Tiffany Road.
Upon arrival, responders discovered a vehicle had rolled over into the woods approximately 20 yards from the road and was on fire with the driver trapped inside. The vehicle had been traveling west on Tiffany Road at the time of the accident. When the Norwich Fire Department arrived, emergency responders were able to make short work of the fire. The subject was freed from the car approximately a half hour later and was airlifted via LifeNet helicopter to the UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. The subject is reportedly in stable condition and did not sustain life threatening injuries.
“Thank God someone passed by because there is not a lot of traffic up there ... he never would have been able to get out on his own,” said Norwich Fire Department Chief Tracy Chawgo.
