Relay For Life
The Chenango Relay for Life Committee will hold a team captain’s meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus community room, 20 Conkey Ave.
Relay co-chair Marie DeSarro encourages anyone who may be interested in forming or joining a team to attend. Topics of discussion will include how to register online and utilize the Relay For Life website. The committee will also focus on the upcoming Paint the County Purple event, to be held May 1, and a community dinner at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, to be held May 11.
DeSarro added the meeting tomorrow will be an opportunity for captains to pick up luminaria to sell, and upcoming deadlines will also be discussed. Team captains can also donate baskets – of a $25 value or more – for its Chinese Auction.
“New this year, if a captain attends a meeting, they will be given a small token of appreciation from the committee,” said DeSarro.
If the captain is unable to be at the meeting, she encourages a team representative attend. Each time a team captain or representative attends a meeting leading up to the July 19-20 Relay For Life event, they will receive a small gift. The captain or representative will also receive a playing card at each meeting and – if they’ve attended every meeting – they will have an opportunity to have the best hand at a mini poker run. The best hand will win a prize.
These are, according to DeSarro, “new ways to encourage team captains or a representative to attend each meeting.”
The Chenango Relay for Life organizers have set a goal to raise $158,000 this year and are optimistic about reaching it, she added.
