Phoenix Project Dance presents “Inside the Dancer’s Studio”

NORWICH – Phoenix Project Dance will present a special event, “Inside the Dancer’s Studio,” at 6 p.m. April 20 at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich.
The evening will borrow a page from the Bravo television network’s “Inside the Actor’s Studio,” and will find dancers of Phoenix Project Dance being interviewed on their craft. Attendees will have the opportunity to get to know more about these professional dancers who hail from far and wide and have come to Chenango County to work with Phoenix Project Dance.
“This will be a great way for people to get to know who these dancers are,” said Phoenix Project Dance Executive Director Mikey Perkins. “Professional dancers are coming into our community to dance with Phoenix Project Dance and they each have big, unique personalities. It’s a great opportunity for each of them to be showcased.”
Dancers with the company hail from areas including Ottawa, Quebec, Pittsburgh, Miami and Manhattan.
Travis St. Denny, a Norwich native who left the area to study dance and has since returned to add his talents to Phoenix Project Dance, added, “It should be very fun ... pretty comical, with some emotional moments that may pull on your heart strings. This will be an interesting event. People will be able to see where we can from, where our paths started, and how they led us here.”
In addition to interviews with dancers, Norwich’s Dr. Cicoria, who plays the piano, will also be interviewed and asked many of the same questions. According to Perkins, the event will be a nice way for those attending to witness the perspective of yet another craft.
The evening will also include a special collaboration between the dancers of Phoenix Project Dance and Dr. Cicoria.
St. Denny added, “I’m really excited about the performance with Dr. Cicoria. That should be really great.”
Phoenix Project Dance is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, and this event is expected to help raise funds for future endeavors. The company recently traveled to Ottawa to perform and Perkins said performances have already been booked for the fall and winter of 2013.
Special baskets have been prepared by each dancer filled with items highlighting their personal interests. Some items in the baskets include massage certificates, an iPad mini, items from the Chobani Yogurt Bar in New York City, wines valuing more than $200, a Miami-themed basket, gift certificates to the local dancers’ favorite restaurants and more.
Inside the Dancer’s Studio will include a sit-down dinner and dress is semi-formal. Tickets for this special event are $50 per person and $90 per couple. You can reserve tickets by emailing phoenixprojectdance@gmail.com. For more information visit phoenixprojectdance.com.
