The Raiders benefited from nine Laurens errors, and made the Leopards pay by converting those extra baserunners into runs. “That’s what I was most happy about: Taking care of things when we had runners in scoring position,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “No matter how we got the runners on, we put the ball in play and made them make plays. That’s half the battle, and we had some timely hits.”
Tim French had two hits and drove in three runs, and Andy Baker also drove in a pair of runs for G-MU. Barrows, in winning his second decision, struck out 10 and allowed one unearned run. “Jason was pitching well at the end of last year, and he’s picked up where he left off,” Mohrein said. “When he’s on the mound, we have a good chance to beat anyone in our league.”

Murray excels at NY-PA Windsor Invitational
WINDSOR – Matt Murray is proving tough to beat at any distance.
A state runner-up in the 400 meters last year, and an indoor track and field state champion at 600 meters this past winter, Murray was victorious in the 1,600 meters Saturday at the prestigious NY-PA Windsor Invitational.
In cold conditions with wind chills around the freezing mark, Murray timed a personal-best 4:34.14 to win his heat – and post the best overall time – by more than three seconds.
Of course, Murray was not done. He captured the 800 meters by 3 1/2 seconds timing 1:54.87 to best Elmira’s Cory McCarty.
Elsewhere, B-G/Afton’s Pedro Aparicio threw a personal-best 48-2 1/4 to win the shot put, and Greene senior Jeremy Flohr was a winner in the 200 meters clocking 23.66 seconds.
Norwich’s boys led area teams scoring 30 points to tie for sixth among 26 teams entered.
Julia Knapp of B-G/Afton was the lone Chenango County girl to pick up a victory. Knapp won the long jump with a leap of 16-1.
