Seven local hoops players earn all-state recognition
SYRACUSE – Seven Chenango County basketball players – five boys and two girls – were recently selected to the 2012-2013 all-state teams by the New York State Sports Writers Association.
Chosen to the team were Norwich boys Michael Sutton and Kyle Edwards in Class B; while Andrew Golden, Oxford; Austin Bauerle, Bainbridge-Guilford; and Justin Hofer, Unadilla Valley were Class C all-state picks
Girls named to the all-state team were Norwich junior Jennifer Borfitz, Class B; and Amanda Off, Unadilla Valley, Class C.
Edwards and Sutton were the Tornado’s top two scorers this past season leading their team to a second straight Section IV Class B title. Edwards, ninth-team all-state last year, was named to the sixth team, while Sutton was tabbed as a seventh-team all-state pick.
Bauerle led the trio of Class C selections picking up fifth-team honors, while Golden earned sixth-team accolades and Hofer was selected to the eighth team.
Among the girls, Borfitz, a junior, was placed on the seventh team, while Off capped her senior season receiving sixth-team honors.
