Norwich Theater Compnay receives six awards for recent production of How Green Was My Brownie

NORWICH – The Norwich Theater Company’s production of “How Green Was My Brownie” last weekend was recently presented with six awards by the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS).
According to TANYS Adjudication Coordinator Paul Nelson, six of the individuals involved with the Norwich Theater Company received honors for their skills.
Colleen Sackett Hopson won the award for Excellence in Acting for her portrayal of Nurse Maxine Threadgill, while a Meritorious Achievement in Acting was awarded to Jane Webb Guistwite for her portrayal of Winifred Flinder; Nick Tyler for his portrayal of Addison Flinder; Allan Hopson-Sackett for his portrayal of Waldo Lennimer; and Michael Gray for his portrayal of Henri Marnier.
Director and set designer Richard Heim received an award for Meritorious Achievement in Scenic Design.
“They deserve these awards and are surely on the road to win more in the future,” said cast member Mike McCormack. “It is a great group of people.”
McCormack added while the Norwich Theater Company has only been around for a few years, it has attracted a number of talented regional actors and successfully put on some memorable shows, including Annie Get Your Gun and Godspell. The Norwich Theater Company, he added, has become an integral part of the community - involved in a number of local activities such as the Norwich Merchants Association, Chenango County Fair, and the Pennysaver/Evening Sun Parade of Lights.
“Our only downside was that a play like this does not draw a large audience,” commented McCormack. “All actors perform better with a large, responding crowd. Remember, this is all volunteer, it is something we love and enjoy doing, and having people experience live theater is what it is all about.”
Director Richard Heim added, “The play went well and we are pleased to receive the recognition from TANYS.”
The Norwich Theater Company’s Artistic Committee, he added, will meet to plan the 2013-14 season soon, and discussion is underway about “All Shook Up,” a production featuring Elvis music with a predominately teenage cast set for August 2013. He also said season sponsorships are still available.
The awards will be officially presented to the winners at the annual TANYS festival banquet, to be held November 23 in Auburn. The award recipients have been strongly encouraged to attend by Nelson, who added it is an “exceptional opportunity” for those in the Norwich Theater Company to be recognized for their impressive work in front of many other colleagues from all across New York.
