Fire destroys barn in South New Berlin
SOUTH NEW BERLIN – A fire late Wednesday night in the Hamlet of South New Berlin completely destroyed a barn, according to authorities, although no one was injured.
Chenango County Emergency Management Officer A. Jones said the fire – at 6275 State Highway 23 – was reported at 10:15 p.m. as visible flames were spotted.
The fire chief arrived minutes later, he added, the blaze officially confirmed as a working barn fire.
Responding departments included New Berlin, Norwich, Mt. Upton, Gilbertsville and Morris. New Berlin Ambulance and CMT were also on the scene.
“The fire was contained in about an hour,” said Jones, “But the barn is completely destroyed.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Chenango County Bureau of Fire.
