Grand jury indicts Ramsaran; to be arraigned Tuesday

NORWICH – Five months after she was first reported missing, a cause of death in the case of Jennifer L. Ramsaran remains a mystery and – as far as authorities and the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office are concerned – that will not change any time soon.
“It is an evidentiary issue, not something I can talk about at this time,” said Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride, adding that, “the People are ready to proceed.”
On Thursday afternoon – and less than a week since he was first charged in the murder of his wife – Ganesh Remy Ramsaran, 38, of New Berlin, was indicted by a Chenango County grand jury on one count of second degree murder, a class A-1 felony, in connection with the alleged crime.
According to his indictment, it is alleged that Ramsaran, on or about December 11, 2012, at the couple’s home at 449 Sheff Road in the Town of New Berlin, did with intent to cause the death of another person, caused the death of one Jennifer L. Ramsaran.
Arrested and arraigned in Chenango County Court on May 17, Ramsaran was released Wednesday after posting $300,000 property bail. He is currently scheduled to appear for arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in Chenango County Court.
Ramsaran first filed a missing persons report for his wife on December 11 of last year, the same day which authorities are now alleging his wife was murdered. The following day, Ramsaran located his wife’s smart phone utilizing Apple’s Find My iPhone app. Several days later, her 2006 Chrysler Town and Country minivan was discovered by Jennifer’s father, Thomas Renz, at the Plank Road Manor, Plymouth Street, Norwich. On Feb. 26, 2013, Jennifer Ramsaran’s body was located down an embankment adjacent to Center Road in the Town of Pharsalia. At the time of the body’s discovery, authorities reported there were no signs of external trauma, adding that all three discoveries were made within twelve miles of each other along the state Highway 23 corridor.
According to various media outlets, the couple first began dating in college approximately 18 years ago and their three children are currently being cared for by Jennifer Ramsaran’s parents.
