Community corner stone reopens under new management
SMYRNA – The Smyrna Country Store and Deli, 3 West Main St., has recently reopened under new management, with a grand opening celebration which took place this past Memorial Day.
“I am trying to make it look and feel like an old country store, homey and welcoming,” said new owner Bonnie Page, referring to both the work which has already been accomplished since she took over as well as her plans for the future.
Since taking over in March, Page has been working nonstop and many in the community have noted with approval the store’s newly polished and immaculate appearance. Recently, a large sign made by Joslyn Fine Metalworks Inc., in Smyrna was attached to the building’s facade making the business hard to miss.
Page is a native of the area having grown up in Norwich. Said Page, “I have always liked the store, I knew Betty and was familiar with her struggle with cancer. My own mother had a history with cancer and so that really struck a cord with me. I like the community and wanted to keep the store going for them.”
Memorial Day signified the advent of store’s new summer hours; 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 7 to 11 a.m. on Sundays. Sundays feature a new special breakfast menu includings items such as sausage gravy and biscuits, pancake jacks, french toast and eggs cooked in all conceivable manners.
“The motto of the store is ‘don’t be a stranger,’” added Page. “We’re a community ... family, friends, it’s a nice place to socialize and I hope people will come support the store.”
