One dead following fatal fire in Guilford
CHENANGO COUNTY – A fatal fire last night claimed the life an as-of-yet unidentified man at a trailer home located at 209 Joslyn Road, Guilford.
The Guilford Fire Department responded to the fire – first reported at approximately 11:40 p.m., with mutual aid requested and received from Oxford and the Chenango County Bureau of Fire.
The fire is currently being investigated by the Chenango County Bureau of Fire and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, reported Chenango County Fire Coordinator Matthew Beckwith. The name of the deceased will be released once the Sheriff’s Office has received a positive ID following an autopsy – and once the unidentified man’s next of kin have been notified – the autopsy scheduled to be performed later today in Binghamton.
At this time, no foul play is suspected, although authorities are still awaiting the results of tests from samples collected by firefighters at the scene, said Chenango County Undersheriff James Lloyd. No other injuries were reported.
In addition, a total of four accidents took place over the weekend.
• An accident involving a tractor tailer and car took place at approximately 7:15 a.m. Saturday at 4442 State Highway 8 in New Berlin. No serious injuries were reported although one person was transported to Chenango County Memorial Hospital.
• Also on Saturday, at approximately 8:29 p.m., the Sherburne Fire Department responded to a fully involved vehicle fire at 140 Mountain View Drive, in Sherburne. Responders were able to quell the blaze shortly thereafter and no injuries were reported.
• In South New Berlin, on State Highway 23 at approximately 8:43 p.m., an accident involving an ATV took place resulting in two individuals being transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton. No serious injuries were reported.
• An accident involving a reported personal injury motorcycle accident took place at approximately 5:51 a.m. Sunday at 3636 County Rd. 32. New York State Police, the Oxford Fire Department, and Norwich Ambulance Service responded to the incident. A call placed with LifeNet out of Sidney was terminated shortly thereafter.
