Ten plead not guilty in county court

NORWICH – Ten individuals were arraigned in Chenango County Court Monday afternoon, all pleading not guilty to the charges brought against them.
• Edward J. Dougher, 49, Binghamton, pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony; second degree criminal use of a firearm, a class C violent felony; tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony; and making a punishable false written statement, a class A misdemeanor.
Bail was continued at $15,000, which Dougher had already posted.
It is alleged that Dougher leveled a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special Revolver at another individual during a verbal exchange. It is also alleged that Dougher, conscious of the fact that said revolver was soon to be used in an official proceeding, attempted to prevent such use by disposing of it in the nearby Chenango River. Furthermore, it’s alleged that Dougher subsequently signed a written statement made to the investigating officer claiming that the revolver was a BB gun while knowing otherwise.
• Scott Frost, 28, Binghamton, pleaded not guilty to first degree robbery, a class B felony; third degree robbery, a class D felony; fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor; and petit larceny, also a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that Frost came to be in the possession of $248, 18 packs of cigarettes and seven Win for Life lottery tickets after allegedly threatening an Afton Extra Mart Convenience Store clerk with a folding knife.
While presenting his argument in regards to the subject of bail, Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride noted that Frost has two violent prior convictions with time served and also pointed out that – when authorities recently attempted to apprehend the defendant – he had jumped out of a second story window to evade capture.
Bail was set at $50,000 and Frost was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. He will re-appear in court at a later date.
• Arianna M. Michalski, 22, Binghamton, pleaded not guilty to first degree robbery, a class B felony; third degree robbery, a class D felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that Michalski had made admissions to an officer regarding her involvement in an alleged armed robbery which occurred at the Extra Mart Convenience Store in Afton. Both the D.A. and the defendant’s attorney noted on the record that Michalski had been a passenger in the car which was used to the leave the scene of the alleged robbery, and that she had not left the vehicle during the commission of the alleged crime.
Bail was set at $2,500 cash.
• Joshua R. Robertson, 27, Sidney, pleaded not guilty to two counts of second degree robbery, a class C felony; one count of second degree assault, a class D felony; and one count of second degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor.
Bail was set at $15,000 cash or $30,000 real property and the defendant was returned to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. A type-A “no contact” order of protection was also issued in favor of the alleged victim.
It is alleged that – during the course of a robbery – of which the defendant was involved, an individual was injured. Furthermore, it is also alleged that during the commission of said robbery, what appeared to be a firearm was displayed and held to the back of the alleged victim’s head.
• Carrie L. Canfield, 28, Afton, indicted on two counts of second degree robbery, a class C felony, submitted a plea of not guilty on both counts.
McBride alleged that Canfield had served as the driver for the robbery of an alleged drug dealer who had been seriously injured during the commission of the crime.
Canfield was released on her own recognizance and ordered to report to Chenango County Drug Court Coordinator James Everard for drug evaluation.
• Jonas F. Parmeter, 22, Eaton, pleaded not guilty to second degree burglary, a class C felony; third degree criminal sale of a firearm, a class D felony; fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon; and petit larceny, both class A misdemeanors.
Bail was set at $10,000 cash and the defendant was remanded to the Chenango Correctional Facility to re-appear in court at a later date.
It is alleged that Parmeter stole a firearm, sold it, stole it once more, and sold it again, according to McBride.
• Richard H. Talada, 42, Norwich, pleaded not guilty to charges of first degree aggravated operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony; aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, a class E felony; and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 of 1 percent or higher, a class E felony.
He was granted a continuance of his R.O.R status determined by the local court and further directed not to operate a motor vehicle or consume any drugs and alcohol, including marijuana, during the course of the matter.
• Donald L. Benedict Jr., 66, Greene, pleaded not guilty to one count of felony driving while intoxicated, a class E felony. He was released on his on recognizance and will re-appear in court at a later date.
• Heather A. Wrench, 24, Bainbridge, denied accusations of two counts of violating the terms and conditions of her probation. She was released on her own recognizance and a hearing was scheduled for a later date.
• Elizabeth R. Jones, 28, Sherburne, pleaded not guilty to all counts of a three count indictment which includes charges of third degree grand larceny, a class D felony; fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor. A continuance of her R.O.R. status was granted.
It has been alleged that the defendant, during the months of March and April of this year, did steal $3,920 by using someone else’s ATM card to make withdrawals without that individual’s consent.
