Chenango Arts Council announces 2013-2014 performance series

NORWICH – The Chenango Arts Council, Norwich, recently announced its 2013-2014 Performance Series lineup – featuring exciting talent from around the globe.
The season begins on October 12 with Red Molly. Since 2004, Americana trio Red Molly has been bringing audiences to their feet with gorgeous three-part harmonies, crisp musicianship, and their warm, engaging stage presence. They have opened multiple shows for music legend Willie Nelson and their CD "Light in the Sky" spent 20 weeks on the Americana Music Association's Top 40 radio chart and charted as Folk DJ's #3 Top Album of 2012.

December 6 brings “A Bronx Christmas – Starring the Bronx Wanderers.” One Family. One Dream. The Ultimate Soundtrack of Rock N Roll. Valentine’s Day weekend brings Kristina Reiko Cooper and her trio back to the Council after past sold out performances with “Besame Mucho: Love Songs from Around the Globe” on February 15.
The Los Angeles Times calls her a “striking virtuoso.” The New York Times hails her as “sensational in concert.”Passionately intense, enchanting, adventurous and one whose music offers a “scintillating combination of the ancient and modern,” these are all words to describe Kristina Reiko Cooper. A gifted cellist, she has performed as a soloist and chamber musician on many of the worlds’ most distinguished stages including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Suntory Hall of Tokyo, Paris, and Prague.
With its underlying romantic story line, Claddagh: An Explosion of Celtic Dance and Passion is a vivacious music, dance and multi-media spectacular whose sizzling cast bounds effortlessly through a repertoire that spans the generations as well as the globe. An instrumental array of violins, violas, cellos, harps, and percussion join the percussive whirlwind of dancing feet. The season finishes on May 10 with the Don Byron New Gospel Quintet in a passionate, spiritually-charged tribute to gospel legends Thomas A. Dorsey and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who stretched the boundaries of the genre by combining traditional Christian hymns with the rhythmic disciplines of jazz and blues.
This event is part of The New York State Presenters Network Presenter-Artist Partnership Project made possible through a regrant from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
This tour engagement of the Don Byron New Gospel Quintet is funded through the American Masterpieces program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
