Oxford advances to Pony League semifinals

SIDNEY – Oxford knocked off Division D division champion Sidney Thursday in the Otsenango Pony League playoffs blanking the host club, 4-0.
Soon-to-be Oxford sophomore Kevin Davis struck out 13 over six innings and allowed just two hits to earn the victory. Tommy Voce pitched a scoreless seventh of relief.
Sidney’s pitching staff allowed just two basehits, but was hurt by 10 base on balls, five of those walks coming in the fifth and seventh innings when Oxford scored two runs apiece. Davis had one hit and two runs scored to help his own cause, and Angelo Gonzalez also scored twice. Daniel Lawton was credited with Oxford’s lone RBI.
Oxford plays Unatego Saturday at 12 p.m. at Neawah Park in Oneonta. Unatego upended Afton Thursday, 5-4.
