Two die in Oxford accident; charges filed in McDonough shooting
Two-car crash results in pair of deaths; seven others injured
OXFORD – A two car accident in the Town of Oxford that took place at approximately 1:42 a.m. Sunday resulted in the death of both drivers and the hospitalization of seven passengers.
It’s believed that David C. Clark, 48, Oxford, was driving a 2002 Dodge caravan early Sunday morning westward on County Route 35 when an eastbound 2000 Ford Focus left its lane, entering into the westbound lane and colliding with the van. Upon impact the Ford Focus ignited. Oxford and Guilford Fire Departments were on the scene shortly thereafter and were able to extinguish the vehicle fire before it could spread to the caravan. Eight ambulances responded to the crash, including two from Oxford, two from Cooperstown Medical Transport, one from Norwich, two from Greene, and one from Guilford. Helicopters from Sidney-based LifeNet and Pennsylvania-based Guthrie also responded to the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Ford Focus, who has not yet been identified by authorities, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Clark was transported to UHS Chenango Memorial in Norwich where he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
All seven passengers – six who were in the Dodge caravan and one from the Ford Focus – were transported to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries.
“Situations like this are extremely difficult for first responders,” said Chenango County Chief Dispatcher A. Jones. “Luckily we don’t have a lot of accidents as serious as this. It certainly taxes our resources when we need eight ambulances.”
The New York State Police are still investigating the crash.

McDONOUGH – August 1, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office – assisted by the New York State Police and the Greene Police Department – investigated a reported shooting at 309 county Route 7 in the Town of McDonough.
Connie B. Hendrickson, who was staying at the 309 County Route 7 residence, was allegedly involved in a dispute with her ex-boyfriend and another female. It is alleged that during the course of the dispute, Hendrickson fired approximately six shots with a rifle at her ex-boyfriend, a female victim, as well as the female victim’s vehicle. Though three of the rounds hit the passenger side of the aforementioned vehicle no one was injured.
Hendrickson, 47, Greene, was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree attempted assault, two counts of first degree reckless endangerment, and two counts of first degree menacing. She was arraigned in the Town of McDonough Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail.
Deputies also arrested two other individuals at the scene.
Glenn E. O’Connor, 45, Greene, was charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, allegedly for unlawfully possessing a rifle as a convicted felon. He was arraigned in the Town of McDonough Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail.
Kimberly H. Haughton, 28, Greene, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly possessing three grams of methamphetamine. She was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of McDonough Court at a later date.
The investigation into the alleged shooting last Thursday lead the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office along with the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team to conduct a “no knock” search warrant on a Stein Road residence in the Town of Greene.
During the execution of the warrant approximately three ounces of methamphetamine were discovered. As a result of the search Glenn E. O’Connor was charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. A warrant was issued for his arrest as he is currently incarcerated at the Chenango County Correction Facility on an unrelated weapons charge.
The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are pending. – Kevin Doonan
